People like to be entertained! That will never change. So the future of the British film industry, and the film industry in general, seems secure. The question is how we, as the audience, choose to watch our films / movies.
Whilst Cinemas are still popular, they aren't as popular as they were in previous times in history. This is due to a number of factors. One of which, is the cost. A ticket to watch a new release in some London Cinemas is around 13 GBP per person. If you plan on taking the whole family, it can be very expensive. Don't forget, everyone will want fizzy drinks and popcorn during the movie.
So what are the alternatives? Rent or buy a DVD. With the recent advances in HD LCD and PLASMA Televisions and HD DVDs we can now enjoy a fairly convincing cinematic experience in the privacy of our own homes. It's far cheaper than going to the Cinema. You don't have to get dressed up. Drink and snacks are a whole lot cheaper. You can pause the DVD movie, as and when you want. Rewind when you want, if you've missed something or if you'd like to see a particular scene over again.
Another option is to download movies on to your PC and watch them. In a legal way of course. iTunes, from Apple, offers just such as movie download service. You pay for each movie you download, and it is usually a little cheaper than purchasing the DVD from a shop. The quality won't be the same watching it on your PC or Apple Mac, compared to watching a DVD on your home theatre system, but the advantage is that the movies are normally available for download the moment the DVD is released.
